Ⅳ. Introduction
Physical Education and Training is a discipline that studies the general laws of physical education curriculum teaching and sports training. The research content covers two fields of physical education and sports training, involving the objects, contents, methods, organizations and implementations of physical education and sports training.
Established in 2003, the discipline of Physical Education and Training in HEU began to admit graduate students in 2004. After years of construction and development, it has gradually formed a talent training system with interdisciplinary integration, stable research direction, reasonable curriculum and distinctive characteristics, which has cultivated and transported a large number of outstanding talents for the sports industry and schools at all levels. At present, the discipline offers two research directions: theory and practice of physical education and theory and practice of sports training. With a high-level and reasonable aging structure of the faculty staff, the discipline has built up the Institute of Sports Science, the Laboratory of Sports Physiology and Psychology, and related experimental equipment such as Body Composition Analyzer and Vienna Psychological Test System.
It has undertaken 15 scientific research projects such as key Olympic research projects, humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, and provincial philosophy and social science projects. In the past 5 years, the teachers have published more than 20 papers in academic journals such as SCI, SSCI, EI, CSSCI, etc., and many of them have been selected for Sports Science Conferences such as the Olympic Games and the World University Games. The department has successively provided scientific and technological support and service work for the national curling team, figure skating team, ice hockey team, etc., and obtained 2 National Excellence Awards of School Physical Education Reform Achievement and 5 Teaching Achievement Awards in Heilongjiang Province.
Ⅴ. Training Objectives
Guided by the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the department aims to cultivate the intellectual, social, physical and moral development of academic professionals who can engage in teaching, training, scientific research and management in the field of physical education for the modernization of education, the strategy of strengthening the country through sports and the national fitness plan.

1. Mastery of ********, students are expected to have a deep love for our country and people and have a strong moral ethics. With a dedication to serving the sports and education of the motherland, and be able to engage in sports professional and technical positions and business management.
2. Proficiency in the basic theory of physical education and training and solid professional knowledge of physical education and sports training. Proficiency in the professional skills of at least 2 sports and the theories and methods of teaching and training. Competence in independently carrying out teaching, training, scientific research and related work in the discipline.
3. Proficiency in at least one foreign language and the application of relevant computer software. The ability to write academic papers.
4. A healthy body and good psychological quality.

Ⅶ. Training Methods
Postgraduate training adopts a combination of course study, compulsory links (including practical links) and dissertation work. Concentration on the method of mentor guidance or collective training of tutor groups, the methods fully combine ideological and moral education with knowledge ability cultivation, connect curriculum learning with scientific research practice, and also attach in-class and extracurricular, online and offline classes. Besides, the tutor group meeting or discussion system are strictly implemented to promote the all-round development of students.

1. Masters should take at least 2 credits of interdisciplinary courses under the guidance of the mentor. 2. For masters who lack a professional foundation at the undergraduate level, a number of main courses at the undergraduate level should be determined as supplementary courses (School Physical Education, Sports Training, etc.) under the guidance of the mentor, which belong to academic grades instead of credits. 3. Select at least 1 item for sports skills practice, and carry out educational internships under the guidance of the mentor. Select at least 2 sports items to carry out educational internships, assist the main teachers to review homework, answer questions and solve problems, guide students to exercise physically, or organize class discussions and other activities. 4. Literature Review and Proposal Report |

In principle, the preparation of the thesis topic should begin before the end of the course, and the time for applying for the dissertation defense should not be less than 1 year. When selecting a topic, it is necessary to read at least 50 relevant literature at home and abroad in this field, and at least 5 foreign language references. The thesis topic should generally combine the professional expertise and interests of the student, and also fully consider the mentor’s guidance ability and the research conditions required to complete it. The literature review need to be signed by the mentor and submitted to the Academic Affairs Office for the record. The proposal report must be conducted publicly, and the research work can only be formally carried out after the consent of the mentor. The time of the proposal report is determined according to the progress of graduate work, and should be completed before the end of the third semester, the second proposal should be completed at the beginning of the fourth semester, and the training will be stopped if failing to pass in the second proposal defence. All works shall be implemented in accordance with the procedures and requirements of the Master Degree Conferment Work Rules in Harbin Engineering University (Trial). The proposal report can be completed for master’s dissertation defense within 6 months or more. Proposal reports must be made publicly. After being reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Physical Education, it will be counted as credits for this compulsory link. |

Mid-term Inspection |

The Department of Sports will organize mid-term inspections according to the content and procedures required by HEU. The mid-term inspection shall be completed within 1 year after passing the proposal report, and will be counted as credits for the compulsory link after passing mentor’s review and the mid-term inspection team. Masters who fail the mid-term examination can apply for the inspection again after 3 months, and those who still fail to pass the examination shall be implemented in accordance with the procedures and requirements of the Master’s Degree Conferment Work Rules in Harbin Engineering University (Trial). |

3. Dissertation Requirements |
Specific requirements for academic ethics, academic level, innovation achievements, thesis writing and defense of dissertations: Academic ethics: The thesis should be completed independently under the guidance of the mentor, and students should follow relevant documents and requirements of HEU strictly. Academic level: With the principle of combing theory and practice, the thesis topic should focus on theoretical and practical issues of research value in a certain field of physical education curriculum and teaching or sports training. The arguments, conclusions and suggestions of the thesis should hold certain theoretical significance and practical value. The thesis should equip logical argument, scientific and reasonable methods, and sufficient arguments. With a certain degree of systematization and completeness, the thesis should express its own new insights. To ensure its quality, a certain amount of workload is necessary. Innovative achievements: The thesis should hold unique opinions, views, conclusions or innovative research methods. It can be the theoretical or practical results obtained by creative scientific research, or the practical innovation results obtained by investigation and experimental research in the field of school sports. Thesis writing and dissertation defense: The format and specifications of thesis writing shall be implemented in accordance with the requirements of Harbin Engineering University Dissertation Writing Specification. The paper should be completed at the beginning of the 6th semester and entered into the defense process with the consent of the mentor. The review and defense of the thesis need to go through the review of mentor, the chief reviewer, the academic misconduct detection of the thesis, the external review, and the revision of the thesis according to the external review’s comments, etc., and all links are qualified before entering the formal defense procedure.The defense procedures and requirements shall be implemented in accordance with the Rules for the Conferment of Master Degree by Harbin Engineering University (Trial). Those who fail to pass the defense need to revise the thesis again and pass the expert review again before applying for defense. Before submitting the thesis for review, graduate students should participate in at least one research project, publish at least one academic paper as the first author in a national official journal in the name of Harbin Engineering University, and provide information on CNKI to retrieve the paper. |
