From December 6 to 8, the 2024 Heilongjiang Provincial College Badminton Championships, hosted by the Heilongjiang Student Sports Association and organized by Harbin Institute of Technology, concluded at the Harbin Institute of Technology Gymnasium. After three days of intense competition, Harbin Engineering University (HEU)’s badminton team delivered outstanding performances, securing remarkable achievements—the mixed team gold in Division A, the men’s singles gold, and the men’s doubles silver—bringing honor to the university.

As the highest-level collegiate badminton tournament in the province, this year’s event featured a mixed team competition and five individual events. The mixed team matches followed a best-of-five format, comprising mixed doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s singles, and men’s doubles. A total of 43 teams participated, including 23 from Division A (regular undergraduate universities), eight from Division B (sports institutes), and 12 from Division C (vocational colleges).
In the team competition, HEU’s badminton team demonstrated formidable strength and exceptional teamwork. Facing tough opponents, the players remained composed, showcasing their technical skills and competitive spirit. After multiple hard-fought rounds, they triumphed over all rivals to claim the Division A team championship, marking their first title in 13 years.
The semifinal against Harbin Institute of Technology saw HEU rally from a 1-2 deficit to win 3-2. The decisive moment came in the fifth match's final game, where Tao Jianying and Pan Haoran secured a thrilling 15-12 victory in men's doubles. In the final against Northeast Agricultural University, HEU displayed remarkable determination, overcoming strong resistance to win 3-1 and claim the championship.

In the individual events, HEU team captain Lei Mofu defended his men’s singles title with exceptional skill, mental resilience, and superior stamina. Meanwhile, the pair Tao Jianying and Wang Peng claimed the men’s doubles silver through tenacious play and technical mastery. Additionally, Pan Haoran and Yan Han completed fifth in men’s doubles, while other team members also delivered commendable performances.

After the tournament, coach Zhao Peiyu and the players expressed their commitment to using this victory as a springboard to encourage more students to engage in badminton. They pledged to continue rigorous training, further elevate their skills, and overcome all challenges to achieve even greater success in future competitions, bringing more glory to the university and contributing to the vibrant sports culture on campus.
